Kermie is a beauty! And I agree, Kermie looks rather feminine! Have you read up on egg laying? Might be a good idea! :D

Yes I think it is a she too, well the vet told me that is what she thinks kermie is when he was at his check up. Not only does Kermie have a name issue but he has an identity issue ( kermie the frog not turtle ) it is funny. my son was 3 when we got him. Hey what does a 3 year old know ! It sounded good to him.

oops! forgot about the egg laying, yes I have read stuff on here about it and that is why I decided to redo the tank. I want to make the tank into 2 sections and then on the one have it full of dirt and stuff then the other side be the water. Does anyone know what age they start with the eggs? I am afraid I am not going to have something for it in time. I only have a floating log that is suctioned to the side for his basking spot.

Here's a link with a lot of good info. Your little girl will lay eggs even if there's no male around. The time they can start laying is more related to their size than their age - I believe it's around 5".

You'll see in the link above that there are links to other sites that have more info on the subject.

On the name issue, there is no reason in the world you can't keep calling kermie...well.....kermie. Kermie won't mind. Lot's of people name their turtles for one gender and find out later they guessed wrong. I knew a guy with a male turtle named Lulu. Lulu didn't mind about the name and neither did the guy.

Good luck!

Also, about the laying area, you may find it simpler to simply convert a rubbermaid container into a dirt box than to revamp the whole tank set up. You could give kermie a few hours a day in it when she's looking ansy and seems ready to lay eggs. That would also save your tank from the certain mess of dirt being dragged in from the egg laying area.
Just a thought... it's what I'm thinking I'll be doing when my girl "leo" (also victim to an identity crisis :-) ) begins laying eggs in an inch or so.

I dont think that you should convert half of your tank to land either. Like megcornell said you could always get a large rubbermaid. However alot of people havnt had much luck with those. Heres the topic that I posted about that. I love the name kermie very cute.

Thanks alot for the info. It really helped me out with figuring out what I have to start watching for. I have not measured kermie in a while but he (she ) has to be getting close to 5 " . I think I will try the container first to see how that goes. What would be better in it, sand or dirt or a mix of both?

a little off topic, but you really need to resize your avatar. it's a great picture though, what a photogenic turtle!
