Emmie died yesterday, so my dad surprised me with a new turtle. Her name is Rose, and she is 4 inches long, about 1-2 years old, and is shy. But, I love her. Poor Emmie....

I think Emmie died of resporatory. She was so little, it was hard for the vet to tell. She was like 1.5 inches long, so she was teeny tiny.

Is that the tank you kept Emmie in?

Hey yertle, one word of advice, tell your parents that you cannot put rose in the same enclosure as your other turtle. Simply because rose will bully or even kill her, sooner or later. And I know that you dont want that.

meg, I think yertle told us in previous posts that she got a setup with a heater, UV light etc..she kept her turtles in that tank before we told her to upgrade to an actuall tank rather than a tiny critter cage. yay for you yertle!

But if you are going to keep rose you are going to need to buy rose her own tank, i'd go for something around 50 gallons..If your parents give you a hard time, tell them to come on here and talk to one of the adults on the forum.

No, they're seperated. The vet told us (when Emmie was around) that the two turts should be seperated.

It's been a long time! I forgot to tell you all about the two vet visits (Three, counting the time we went to try to make Emmie live. (We had to euthanize her, she was 99% dead) We picked her up today (Her body, that is) and were hysterical.

I'll try to get a pic of the setup soon. There'll be one by tomorrow.

PS- she's in a 20 gallon (It is the largest one we have for the time being)

Thanks, I am. I'm thinking about getting my friend or cousin a male turtle, so they can breed, and give my babies to a person who has a licence to sell them. (Maybe even keep one for myself, lol)

I take her outside on a 'leash' every day to let her get more exercise every day. (4 inch RES need to have more room than a 20 gal. tank!) We took her to the park yesterday, and are taking her today.

There are so many RES that have no homes. I don't think breeding yours is a good idea...Why would you want to give away any babies and then allow them to be sold? How would you know that they were going to good homes? The seller would be interested in making money and wouldn't care where they went...

A leash? Oh, dear...Do you mean a leash like for iguanas? If it were me, I wouldn't want to take my RES to a public place like a park to walk around. How would you know if the grass had been sprayed with pesticides?

We agree on one thing---a 4-inch RES needs more room than a 20-gallon tank. Rose needs a bigger tank, at least a 40-gallon one now, and bigger one is preferable since she will grow.

is that all the water in that tank she could use a lot more even in a 20 gallon you can get more water in there

Agree. And I think the leash idea isnt a good one. And I wouldnt breed RES..re-read what marisa said.

What if they made a thing like a turtle leash, then i would walk the turtle instead of walking the dog =D
