I took my turtle out for the first time in months where I wasn't just moving him, I actually took him out and let him run around a bit while I watched him.

Well, he meandered over to me, and I remembered reading something about how some people's turtles have a little 'spot' that calms their's down, so I just rubbed down his spine with my finger, and he sat up! Went from belly on the ground to pushing up with his front legs and sitting still. He did this more when I got to his back scutes, especially the ones that are pliable right above his tail lol.

So I guess they like back rubs? lol

He also recently became more 'bold' and has been keeping his mouth open like he's going to bite me when I pick him up. He even went so far as to 'burp' up some air opening his mouth when I grabbed him underwater.

Goofy turtles eh?

Actually, Gray Goose has one turtle that makes a ritual of coming up to have his back scratched!

Their shells are pretty sensitive, so I'm sure they can feel you petting them, and I guess every turtle's different, so some must love it!

My turtle gets all squirmy when I rub his back. I think he's ticklish up there,so it's fun to tease him. XD He also likes getting his nose rubbed. :D

My turtle loves when i rub his back. I was just feeling his scutes one day because he is starting to shed and he did just what you said. He pushes up with his front legs almost like he's trying to arch his back or something. And sometimes he'll even stretch his neck out as far as it will go. I think it's so cute!

My turtles like to have their "backs scratched" when they're going to shed/shedding. Otherwise, they don't, especially in the water when they can't see what's touching their shell.

My little turtle loves them (after she finishes attacking my hand)... the big one refuses to stand still.
