What age is it ok to seperate a baby res form its mom at

Females turtles have no motherly instinct. They lay their eggs and they're job is done--they leave the covered nest and don't return or try to protect it as some other animals do. So, I don't think it's an issue if the hatchling were separated from the mother (in the wild the eggs would hatch on their own and the hatchlings would have to fend for themselves). You would not want to keep turtles of greatly different sizes together as well.

i ask because my best friends res laid eggs a while ago and he offered me one of the hatchlings but i dident want to take he/she away from its mother to soon.

I don't think separating the hatchling from the mother is an issue.
