As a Turtle fan i would like to let everyone know that, a few days ago i was on EBAY looking for turtle stuff and i came across a turtle clock and the shell appeared to be a REAL turtle's shell. So as an active animal activist i asked the individual it they were using the shells from real turtles, she then replied by saying that her husband goes out and chatches them, they eat the turtle and use the turtles shell for a profit!!!!!
I don't know how you all feel about this. But i am ABSOLUTLY outraged!!! I just thought i would fill everyone in.

That is by far, the most disgusting thing I've ever heard of concerning turtles.

I'm totally disgusted... I've heard of people eating turtle. Why would you want to when there's other meat grown for this reason? Awful...

I guess it would be for the same reason that others hunt deer, turkey and go fishing. Not that I'd do it, but I can see why some would. At least they aren't killing them and just taking the shell .. that IMHO is much much worse. Like Trophy hunting.. grrrrrrrr

I know people do it, but I find it incredibly sad.

I can say I think it's sad, but at the same time, I've got a freezer full of fish, chicken, rabbit and opossum...semi-cute animals. To each his own. I think it's better that he's doing something creative with the shell rather than just throwing it out. What a waste.
I posted this, then thought I'd better explain the opossum thing

My husband is from Grenada and it's totally normal there. I won't touch the stuff.

I know what you mean. But the idea of making money off of the shell on Ebay sucks. I haven't eaten red meat in well over a decade, but I still will each chicken and fish. Like my turtles, though, I'm getting progressively more "herbivorous" as time goes by.
Does your husband hunt the opossum?

I think Ebay has rules against things like that.
My husband has been back to visit his family in Grenada a few times and that's where he gets it. They hunt them there, but it's not as gross as it sounds. Here, they're just big rats, I mean they eat garbage, they're diseased. On the islands, they run wild like a rabbit would. They eat vegetation and don't get into people's trash.

I hunt deer but when I do get a deer I make sure everything that can possibly be used is used.
As for that turtle shell...that's kind of gross. I mean honestly hey it's great they are purtting everything to use, but if you are going to do something like that, first of all, make sure that someone is actually going to want it, if not then you just wasted it. But I honestly don't think I would want a dead turtle's shell hanging on the wall. It's bad enough when you have deer heads hanging on the wall that keep looking at you.
At least I try to follow the Indian way of like giving thanks to the deer for giving up it's life so that I can live on. I show some respect for what I've done.

omg that is horriable about the turtles. People at school would tease me all the time about eating turtle soup because they knew i had a turtle i the room.
I think its wrong he goes out and just kills them. I mean we have deer season and turkey season for a reason to keep them at a number so they won't starve themselfs to death i've never heard of a turtle population problem

I SAW THAT! I too was looking up turtle stuff in a positive way, and stuff to help Neptune! I thought abotu asking them but I couldn't bare to hear a bad answer. I just prayed in my head that it was from ones that had already been harmed. They do other things too not just clocks!

I can understan the different cultures eating possum or deer or whatever else. But i just don't see a point in hunting turtle for the sole purpose of a profit. I'm with you Marisa i don't eat red meat...my husband does but not me.
Here is the web address jenaero....i would think Ebay would be against it but obviously they're not

Sorry if i gross anyone out, i just get so upset when i see stuff like this.

I've seen a bunch of restaraunts have turtle soup before, so it doesn't seem that far fetched.
Kind of strange IMHO.

I just wanted to fill everyone in: I reported the individual to Ebay and they have sent me an E-mail thanking me for the report and will be looking into it.

You know they could be just killing them to make the clocks and throwing everything else away but the shell.
Though, in my opinion, the clocks are ugly... they have self-adhesive numbers on them. At least they could have made them nice if they HAD to make them at all.
