My husband is home right now with a bunch of his friends who joke (i think) about eating my turtles. I just want to go home and keep an eye on them. I know that sounds too gross to be true but where these guys are from (carribean) it wouldn't exactly be abnormal to do such a thing. They were downstairs for a good 20 min just looking at them

I know I probably sound paranoid but I guess it's kindof like leaving your kids with people you dont know..just not comfy

hahahaha... One of my sons often teased me about making turtle soup.. actually a joke in the house is how we should just name one of the Soup..

I'd not think they'd take someone's pet and make soup out of it, but I can definitely see where you'd want to be sure haha

The one guy was talking about it and I just said "Let me know where you want to be buried"

We were talking about odd things we've eaten in my Journalism class the other day and one kid was talking about eating soft shell turtle and I CRINGED. I know they are animals and I myself have eaten some pretty odd things (ostrich, shark, buffalo, squid, squirl, raccoon, alligator). BUT STILL! I kept seeing pictures of little baby soft shell turtles and then I thought of my RES and I was just so freaked out about it.

I mean, people who own cats and dogs here in America don't ever have to think about their pets being eaten by humans. So I guess it's just weird for me to think about mine possibly being edible for humans.

Oh there are countries in this world who eat dogs and cats too. I know my ex father-in-law talked about the Vietnamese eating dogs all the time.. that made me CRINGE too .. ewwwww. Just another cultural difference but that sure could make me vegan let me tell you.

I know that other countries eat cats and dogs but it doesn't primarily happen here in the U.S. so it's something I've not been exposed to.

I think we have a student at our school who grew up in Canada and he says he's eaten dog...and it was pretty good.

*whimpers*

Poor puppy. Of course...I guess it really isn't different then eating a hamburger...

Canada? I'm guessing his family was from somewhere else. I can tell you it's not normal practice here.

I didn't think it was (I love Canada by the way. Plan to live in Ontario at some point). But he claims this is the truth. Maybe it is for his family. Which is weird.

Definetly a family thing. We are not unlike the US as far as that stuff goes.

Dogs--popular in Korea. Before the 1988 Seoul Olympics, the govenment had a time trying to shut down/keep places from selling it because it was afraid of tarnishing the country's image.

I would politely but firmly tell them that such talk was not acceptable in my home. Making comments like that in your house is rude and disrespectful.

My mother used to make comments about making my snake into shoes, until I kicked her out of the house for it. She no longer makes such comments.
