I'm just curious that since selling RES that are below 4 inches are illegal, so where do people get their baby RES? and if I buy baby RES from a pet store, does it make me illegal too?

I adopted mine online. That's the only way I knew how, then I learned to find out that you can get them at the local flea market here for $5 ea. It's basically buying them, but your "adopting" them.

No it doesn't make you illegal if you buy a turtle that is under 4 inches. In fact my grandpa bought me my turtle that is under 4 inches, and he's a deputy! And no vet office should ever turn you down because you have a baby turtle.
Mine though was bought at a little set up stand in the mall. Basically there was just this big tank in the middle of the mall and a guy was standing there selling the turtle in death bowls and food for twenty bucks.
The only thing that might happen when you buy a baby turtle from one of those guys is when they get shut down you may get a phone call asking you to bring the turtle back. DON'T! You bought the turtle fair and square and what happens when you bring the turtle back is not pretty. That's why I never gave Michelangelo back, because I didn't want to know what would happen to him and be responsible for it.
But really the only thing about buying a baby turtle is that when you do that you are basically saying to the illegal sellers they need to get more of the baby turtles, which then causes more illegal turtles to be out on the market. If you buy a 4" turtle you are promoting the selling of legal turtles. Just make sure it's healthy before you get it. or if it is sick, it is something you can cure.

I'm not sure I agree with that..

If you get them at a mall/store/vendor etc, you are buying them. If you get them from a turtle rescue or spca or something of that sort, you are adopting them. Adopting is giving a home to pet that someone no longer wants. That's just how I see it

Either way, it's not illegal to OWN a turtle under 4", just to sell it

There is a website (which will remain nameless), where, if you buy the lagoon/container, you get the RES for free. And, if I remember correctly, "adoption" papers come with the turtle/s. (Cute, huh?)

Wow that's pretty effed up marisa.
I got mine for a kiosk thing in the mall and they were a little bigger than a quarter when I got them. Whenever I go back to that mall and see all the little guys they are selling it's hard to believe mine were ever that big! haha

I see

, I got mine in Pet Lovers and I still remember at that time, there was a label outside saying "only buy turtle for education purpose", but about 2 years ago, I noticed that they stop selling baby RES, and all the store have this sign about Salmonella(I only see one store that sells baby RES). I'm just afraid that in few years or so I may never be able to see baby RES again in pet store anymore

But it's good there are other ways of getting one.

our forum does not support that site, because they are horrible, and refridgerate their animals until they sell. And next time, just edit your post, don't post 3 times. We all hate that site, so don't mention it, they are cruel. Thats all we have to say to that site.
