my tank is 3/4 full on the botton of small rocks. my turtle, Fredo, likes to make a clearing in the middle of the tank, that is push a bunch of rocks out from the middle, and leave only one rock in the center. he then stares that lone rock down(everytime this happens a different rock is lone in the center of the clearing). Then he raises his hands and "waves" his hands across the rock, at the same time his "fingers"/nails, are moving about a thousand miles an hours, flicking the rock a thousand times with each wave of his claw across the rock. has anyone else seen this sort of behavior? what does it mean? why does he do it? :?:

Sounds like my bubble eyes. My fish will line up the river rock in their tank like they are making a starting line, and then all sleep in a row at that line...odd.. lol

No, he doesn't need a companion. Turtles are solitary creatures by nature only coming together to mate or compete for the best basking areas. Just call it his play time. I think he's enjoying playing with the rocks. Sounds like you have a very happy turtle to me. Don't risk the aggression or illness that may occur by adding another turtle to the picture, not to count the more money that it takes to keep multiple turtles should they not be compatible and have to be separated permanently. :)
