Did anyone else here have turtles when they were a kid?

I had two when i was a kid. I kept them in a death bowl (the one with the ramp and plastic palm tree) and fed them solely pellets with the occaissonal tadpole i caught. I did not know anybetter. I think baby turtles were selling for around a dollar or two at the time.

I gave one away after the other died of pneumonia. I never knew it had pneumonia at the time. There was no internet back then and my local library is a far cry from a library you would find in the city. There was no internet than. I did not even have a computer.

The poor little guy would just float on the water. He could not dive. They had no heating and no UVB light. Just a stupid little calcium block.

I gave the survivor to a guy who had big turtles. He seem to be having success at the time with them. I was young and stupid! I loved those turtles though.

My wife actually got me to buy the turtles i currently have. I think she regrets it. She wanted a turtle but she did not expect me to baby the 2 little ones! She actually unleashed a monster.

These are my first turtles. When I started out with turtles I didn't know better than Gokuh. Fortunately the internet exists, or else my turtles would be in a place worse than the adoption places around here (St. Lucie County can't get anything right).

When my mom brought home two tiny hatchlings in a death bowl, she had no idea what she was getting me into. I suddenly went from a death bowl to a 10 gal tank (at least I had it on hand) and she was convinced that it was just going to encourage them to grow. After doing more reading I dug out the 30 gal tank and it got my by until I was able to purchase the 75 gal that they are in now. In the 7 or so months that I have had them, everything in my life has become turtle. What can I say...I wasn't going to let them continue in the death bowl...like my parents did.
