Is your tank glass? How is it setup? If the plexiglass is not supporting anything in the tank, then you can use a razor blade to scrape off the silicone. People use razors to remove excess silicone on glass, tiles and other hard surfaces. Just be very careful if you have silicone that is near or in contact with the silicone that's part of the glass tank. It is easy to reapply new silicone if you do accidentally remove some.

Are you using a safety blade like this?

Then it should work well. Maybe you can wipe the excess silicone off and keep scraping. These blades work very well on glass surfaces.

Thanks, i'll try to tackle it again, btw- i was surprised that the blade cut so close to the glas but didn't scratch it. Also, how can you cut plexiglass? i think i was to resize a piece of mine to put in a different tank. should i bring it somewhere to get it cut or do it myself and how?

If you're using a fresh razor on smooth glass and you don't use too much force and the glass will be fine. The hardware store where I buy my acrylic also cuts it for free, though they don't always do a good job. I don't think there is an easy way to cut it yourself... I haven't lookd into it.
