Hey everyone. I know it's been a while since I've posted here but everything has been going pretty well..and I haven't really needed help. That combined with how busy I've been means I haven't really been online much. Anywayz, the reason I'm posting is because I've decided to enlist in the army and I don't feel comfortable leaving Charlie with my parents or any of my friends. They would try their best (well, my mom's scared of him so she's out! lol) but since none of them have had to deal with turtles and are pretty busy as well..I don't think he would get the level of care he deserves. So now, I'm looking for a new family for him. I would return him to the reptile rescue where I got him from but after considering it..I don't think they took very good care of him either. All I want is for him to have a family or owner who would take care of him and love him as he deserves. He's 6", really cute and once he gets to know you, he's the sweetest turt alive. Oh..he loves playing games like tag, accepts caresses eagerly(if he knows you) and will find a spot close to you and watch tv with you. I'll check back on this site occasionally so feel free to leave suggestions or comments. I don't really want to ship him so if there's anyone in the New York..brooklyn, queens or manhattan area who feels that they'd be a good match for my baby..please contact me at lil_miss_contrary@myway.com. I have a friend who took Billie (Billie lived with Bobbi at the school, before we took them) and she was having a lot of trouble get him (and the two other turtles she bought) to eat and grow. I took one from her but hers still weren't doing good, and I didn't have room for anymore.
So I gave her a very very detailed care sheet.
what to feed, what lights to have on and for how long, how big of a tank, everything I could think of.
I'm sure you have the tank, lights, filter and all that under control.
So maybe if you leave it with a friend you could just type up a very very detailed list of how he needs to be cared for.
Also, of course, make sure the link to this site is on there.

If you'd still rather give him an entirely new family, I wish you luck with that.
I just thought you might want him back after you got back..or settled somewhere.

You could always advertise in the paper. It's then up to you to screen prospective turtle parents and you can be sure he is going to a loving home. You would have more control over the situation there. Are there other rescue missions that would take him and treat him better than the one that you got him from?

Good Luck with the Army. My boyfriend and his little sis are in. He was in Iraq when his sister made the choice and his parents about flipped.

lol Thanks guyz. I'm 21 years..and 6 weeks. lmao Yes I'm excited, I can barely wait! lol Well..except for giving Charlie up. I've thought about doing that. I was originally going to leave him with my parents and my dad was going to take care of him but he's not going to be around and therefor won't be available to care for him. My friends are insane! lol My best friend would do it for me but she's working away from home now and the others..I don't trust them enough. U know? They're all pretty much not pet people and even those who have pets..have dogs and cats. Charlie hasn't been around those creatures and I'm not sure how it would work out. I'm so confused!


I'm going to look into other animal rescues and I hope if that doesn't work out..I'll find someone. Thanks for the classified suggestion..I'm going to try everything! I love Charlie way too much..I feel like it's my responsibility to make sure he'll be taken care of and loved..u know? *sigh* I told my mom that I won't cry when I leave for basic training..'cause I know I'll see my folks again..but I will cry when I have to say good bye to Charlie..I feel like he's my baby, best friend and basically part of me. *sigh* This really bites. lol Thanks again for being here. *hugz*

:( I'm so sad today! I mean, I should be happy that I finally found Charlie a new family and based on the level of concern and questions I'm already fielding from them..I'm pretty sure they'll take great care of him but I feel like I'm being torn apart. I don't want to give him up!! Does that make me selfish? If it does..then I guess I'm just gonna keep on geing selfish 'cause all I wanna do is go curl up somewhere..preferably in front of his tank and cry.

It doesn't make you selfish, it makes you human ((HUGS)). Maybe you can arrange to have visitation when you're home for holidays and whatnot? It's a REALLY good sign that they're asking questions. The guy I gave 2 of my res to never really asked anything and he said he'd email me in a week or 2 to tell me how they were doing. That was in March and I've emailed him a few times and heard nothing back.

Sounds like you've found him a good family tho. Just tell them you'd like to keep in touch. I'm sure they'd understand.

Wow! The good thing is that my mom works with one of the people so I know they'll keep in touch. I'm sorry about that guy not contacting you. That must be tough. *hugz*

It wasn't really as hard for me because I only had them for a month or 2. They weren't very happy critters either. All they ever did was eat and bite me. I only took them in because I felt I had to. After seeing the conditions they were kept in I couldn't just leave them like that.

Maybe you could keep looking and find someone willing to foster? I'll do it if you can get them over the border.....yes, I'm serious.

That is tough that you had to give up your turt but I give you a lot of credit since you found a good family for him. At least you know the people who are taking him in & aren't leaving it up to chance. The good thing is that if they have questions on how to care for him, you can tell them what to do & refer him to this website so they can take care of him properly. That is a very loving thing you did for him & shows true caring.

You've done a very good thing, finding your turtle a good home. You should feel proud of yourself!
