ANyone know how good turtle vision is?

Mine seem to see me from across the room, but were wondering if they just see movement or are they seeing us?

i have no idea but this is a question i was actually going to post as well. i am quite interested to see what the answer is!

they have pretty good eyesight but they are even better at sensing vibrations like preditors comming close

Their eyesight at distances is keen (so they can see predators/trouble coming). They are indeed seeing you/your movement from across the room.

From my experience (of watching my pet turtle walk around & explore my house), they have excellent vision, but a lot of times they don't know exactly what they are looking at (comprehension of what they are seeing just isn't there, especially with things they wouldn't see in the wild, like furniture & what it's purpose is). For example, my turtle will go bumping along a white wall & keep looking at it (as if she is trying to see thru it). She sees that it is there & can feel it, but doesn't know its purpose & doesn't understand that she can't get "thru" it.

This might sound silly, but you have to remember that I have had the same turt for 16 yrs & have had plenty of time with her to observe her behavior.

I think turtles have poor eyesight but a good sense of vibrations (like most reptiles) The reason I think that is because I frequently see my turtle begging for food when my dog comes near the tank, probably thinking it's me. LOL

At close distances their eyesight isn't supposed to be that good (but for distance they're eyesight is excellent), which is partly why they seem to miss food that's near them. They tend to rely more on their sense of smell in such cases. They are very sensitive to vibrations, however.

My turt recognizes the container that holds her Wardley food pellets, and goes nutso when she sees me pick it up. She knows her food is in it. Other times, I feel like her vision is poor.

My turtle also recognizes a food container, and gets excited when it is in my hand. He gets so fixated on the canister that he does not notice the food in the water with him- I have to walk away while he is still threashing around and then when I am gone and he has calmed down he will notice the food next to him and eat it.
