In the blink of an eye...

This is still bothering me. On Sunday I was driving down a highway and noticed a small turtle determinedly trying to cross the hot pavement. I immediately pulled over, and to save time, rather than go to the next exit and turn around, I put the shift in reverse and began to back up to the place where he was crossing so I could run out and grab him. A group of cars suddenly appeared, and I held my breath as they went over him, one of them missing him by inches.

I was finally getting the car back to where I could stop it and get out when a few more cars appeared. I looked to see where he was, only to see him fly off the ground as the last car hit him. I got out, ran onto the highway to retrieve his body. He was a baby snapper, with a shell that was only about an inch and a half long. I took him home and buried him near the pond. :(

that's sad......i guess when they're that small they're hard to see.....and sometimes cars can't slam on brakes.....but i understand,i feel that same way when i see a stray animal wandering around.
