I have somewhat of an urgent problem. My turtles have gone missing in my house. I had them in a bucket on top of my desk and when i came back after a few hours they were gone. The bucket wash pushed over the desk. Will they most likley just be hiding, would they come out? They could only be on one floor. Should i leave food out? Will they walk around, ive looked all over with my parents but we cant find them. I just dont wanna loose them and find them all dried up and dead somewhere a few months from now. Any input would be nice, thanks

Try a water dish and something smelly like tuna.

Ok i put some dishes out with tuna. Hope that works. How long cna they live without food? I just dont get it, i looked everywhere at least 3 times.....

Glencoe, look absolutely everywhere---under things in between things, look in places you don't think they could possibly be. Look also in any clothing that might be on the ground. Being out in the open, they're feeling vulnerable and will most likely look for a place to hide. If it's a dark place, they'll likely become inactive and sleep. If you're having no luck and they could have possibly fallen down a flight of stairs, look on the lower floor as well.

You might be able to attract them by putting a shallow pan of water near the place where the bucket fell. Sometimes putting a smelly food in a dish next to the water might entice them to come out. Some people have left a light on near the food and water at night so they'd be attracted by the light as well. If you don't find them by nightfall, you might try this as well.

They can go for a while without food and water, so keep looking. I don't know how big your turtles are--if they're larger, you might just listen for any sounds. If your turtles are larger, they'll most likely make some noise when they're active. Smaller turtles are much harder to find and can wedge themselves in the most improbably places. Yeah we looked pretty much everywhere. It was in the basement they got lost. But not ur average basement, we have rooms and all. In any case, i hope they come out, cause i dont want them to die.

oh, and theyre pretty small, almost a year old. i got them in november.

Do look every where, over and over again. Under and behind furniture. They like to squeeze into impossible places... listen to scratching sounds. If you have a hard floor, listen for thumping sounds. They do recognise doors as entry/exit points, be careful while you search around them. If it is dark, they will nap like marisa said. I would block off areas as you search them to make sure they can't sneak by.

my turtle escaped once when ui left for the weekend.... i freaked out thinking i was going to find him dead... but i found him and he was fine and perfectly healthy

... he was under my bed alll the way in the back corner behind some boxes

yeah theyre fine. seemed a little scared, but who can blame them. I boughtt hem guppies for the first time today. I honestly dont think theyll be able to catch them. lol
