just how much digging is normal? Before I started treating Scratch I noticed he would leave the water to the dry basking area I have setup and completly bury himself. He would do this repediatly and sometimes over night. He will dig untill completly under and then go to sleep. he tended to do this as close to the basking light as posible and more in the evenings. I originally believed him to be female and thought she might be looking for a spot to lay eggs. After the fanning incident I now believe Scrach to be male.. And kinda forgot about the egg deal. But I thought I would ask. I haven't observed any more digging latley because he is in an isolation tank currently{view other posts} What are some of the reasons for digging and what is the whole hibrnation process is that a digging possibility? thanks guys!!!!!!!!

LOL I don't know anything about digging on dry land, mine stays in water with a dry dock basking area, nothing to dig in. One suggestion, the water temp may be too cold and the basking temp may be too warm, so the burying himself may be due to that. What are the temps in both areas?

well all this was privious to the water heater purchase and I have also purchased a better basking bulb since then for when I return him to his tank. So this makes some sence..Thanks...

I'LL HAVE SOME PICS UP SOON OF MY SET-UP BUT I WANTED TO RECREATE AS CLOSE TO AN OUT DOOR NATURAL HABITAT AS POSSIBLE SO HE HAS A LARGE POND LIKE AREA CONNECTED VIA A RAMP SYSTEM TO A BASKING DRY LAND AREA WITH REPTILE CHIPS AND A LITTLE SOIL AND SOME PLANTS TO MULL AROUND IN.

carefully with certan varieties of land plants.. some of them have milky saps that may be poisonout to reptiles

is there a place where I can see which varities are ok and which aren't?

My turtle loves to dig himself a hole in the ground behind a bush & sleep.
