does anybody have any suggestions on how to make a turtle stop splashing?! i have my RES in my bedroom, so about 6 am Stan starts splashing, not alot, but just little plops. so i put a blanket over the tank and he stops, then around 8:30-9:00 am, he starts again, and hes loud! so i feed him and he eats, then about 1/2 later he splashes non stop! and im trying to sleep! ive tried putting the blanket back on the tank, but he still does it. im sure he just wants attention, but i wanted to know if anyone else had any tricks on how to make them stop!...i think he just does it to make me mad..haha!

hhmmm paco does this sometimes too.... is there anything that may stress him at all?

i really dont think so, other than the fact that he is getting too big for his tank, but i am getting him a new one very soon.

that might be the problem... that or he just likes to go for a :run: in the morning... it might be a behavior quirk that he has... paco likes to siconect his dock and push it into the filter (and shove the filter too) sometimes our pets are unpreddictable i dunno.... do you think there is anything else that is impeding his calm?

My adult RES does this too when she wants attention. There isn't much you can do about it except ignore him when he does it. Apparently he is used to you coming over when he does it, so he continues to do it!

If moving the tank is out of the question, then maybe you can try this: sometimes I let my Sheba walk around on the floor outside her tank for a few hours (remove any hazards from the floor & close the door to your room). If you have a pile of stuffed animals on the floor, your turt may just dig his way underneath them and fall asleep (mine does this). This keeps them occupied & keeps them quiet so you can also get some sleep! They can stay out of the tank for up to about 8 hours without any problems. Just make a conscious effort not to forget your turtle is walking around so you don't step on them by accident!

That is such a perfect way of putting it. You don't realize how smart they are until they pull one of their little "stunts" to get your attention.

Hmm, I had a similar problem with Ralph, who decided it was great fun to rearrange his rocks at 3 in the morning. He's grown out of it now though. If he stays up late (even though his lights are off) he usually sleeps in until I get up What time do you turn his lights off?

I believe it's a means of exercise. There are times when my two who live in a pond will be swimming frantically. It even looks like they're trying to escape sometimes.
When I get them out and look them over, they're all wiggly, seem happy and go right back at it when I put them back in the pond.
When my turtles are frightened they go to the bottom and hide. When they're hungry they come up to me and allow me to pick them up ... their cue that it's dinner time. They are happy campers and are always on the move.
So as mentioned, I think they're just feeling good that it's a new day!

Try those foam earplugs. I think the best ones go up to 32 decibles. I use them because my husband snores like a freight train...

Any drug store should carry them or Wal Mart, Target, etc.
