RED EARED SLIDERS - PLEASE HELP...URGENT!!!

My mother died recently and she has 3 red eared sliders that she loved and adored. She had raised turtles for years and these were her last 3 when she died. I live out of state and must return to my family soon. I need to find a safe place for these guys. They are between 2 and 3 years old and are very healthy. The largest one is about 6 inches in diameter and I CANNOT just let the loose. My mother loved them sooo much.

I am in Fairfax, Virginia and whoever will volunteer to take these guys, I will include a 60 gal turtle tank, a 40 gal turtle tank and a 20 gal acquarium and ALL of the supplies my mother had, which includes numberous landings and rocks and decorations for the tank. With all the equipment, It surely would be nice if someone could pick them up, or if I could deliver them.

I'm desperate and really, really want to find a good home for Simone, Garfunkle and Elvis. The largest (Simone) is female and the 2 others are male. She got Simone and Garfunkle as a baby pair and Elvis came with a tank she bought later (she really didn't want a 3rd but there she was) She adored these guys and I know if I turn them over to a rescue place they may find a home for them, but I KNOW what it entails to take care of these guys and I don't just want anyone to get them. They need the proper love and care that they are used to getting from my mother...
PLEASE, PLEASE HELP....Thank you very much....JUDY BYRD

Just dont release them into the wild, they have been captive animals all their lives, showered in love by your mother. They will not survive in the wild, period. I am so very glad you are looking for a home for all of them, your doing a good thing you know. I have a suggestion for you:

www.turtlehomes.org

These people are very serious when it comes to turtles, they have a very good reputation and they dont just let anyone adopt them. You have to meet certain standards in order to adopt, in lamens terms. Your mom's turtles will be sent to a good home.

You may want to put this under a different heading like, "3 RES & Equipment for immediate adoption in Fairfax, VA". You may get a quicker response from someone in your area. Try posting it in the General Discussion forum too, since that gets read more often by everyone. I hope you can find them a good home soon. That's really nice of you to be taking care of them. Sorry to hear about your mother.

You might want to ask friends/co-workers/neighbors if any of them are keepers. Sounds like your mother was doing a good job, it may not be impossible to keep them nearby.

jbyrd, I wish I could help, I really do. I'm in Texas though, so there's not much chance. I'll keep you and your turtles in my thoughts.

Dear Judy, I am Christine Broussard in Vienna, Va. and wish to adopt turtles. The age sounds perfect. I am off on travel (my work) for a weekd and shall return on April 23rd. Can we see each other April 24th or you will be gone. Is someon else taking care of you little RES? while you returned to your state?
My husband and I love these amazing little friendly pets and would love to meet with you. Christine cell 571-278-2547. I am home Sunday 15th.

I'm working on it. Christine (prev. post) and I are going to get together when she returns home, and I think she wants one of them (possibly 2)...If I haven't found a suitable home for all 3 by the first Sunday in May, then I have made arrangements to turn them over to a rescue society in Baltimore. Thanks for your interest. These are such sweet guys and I know that they need to be properly taken care of. If anyone can help, please email me at jbyrd1972@aol.com.

Thanks a mil....

That's great news. I'm glad you and Christine were able to work something out. That's really good of you to make sure those turtles find good homes. The rescue society should also be able to do that too if you aren't able to place all of them.
