Geez, you guys! Don't make such a big fuss. I don't have any turtles in my pond, just 7 fish. 3-Koi, 3 Red Comets and a Calico Shubunkin. The hatchling RES that I got started for my GGson is now in a big homemade patio pond and is a happy camper. I still read the posts from you all and if I feel a comment is necessary, I won't hesitate to jump in. Okay? Thanks for your concern. It's much appreciated by this Old Turtle. George :D :D

I had a feeling you were just reading most of the time, I do that too, no need to post anything if someone is doing a good job about answering a post already, I don't like to sound like a know-it-all myself. :D :D

George--no turts in the pond? What happened?

No Turts!

No turts in the pond means no turts at all. Wife and I, after all these years and all the bucks spent, have called it quits. Gave all 7 turts to our favorite pet emporium and they are keeping Fred and Wilma (RESs) and selling the EPTs. I've had a couple of surgeries and we want to spend all the time we have with the kids and Gkids and GGkids. We're in our 70s now and want to take a couple of more cruises and do stuff without the turtle worry. The pond is almost self- sustaining now with the correct filtration, permenant growing lillies and snails. Feed the fish every other day and they are all eating the algae that grows on the pond sides. Will net over the pond for the fall and for the winter, a small heater to keep a hole opened for gas escape and a circulating pump for a gentile current and the fish will be just fine. Won't have to feed 'em when the water temp drops to 50 or less.
After the big turts were gone, I purchased a hatchling for my GGson and put it in the pond. There were times I thought it had escaped because it was so small compared to the lillies and floating plants. I suspended a log in the center of the pond and it was always up there basking. I started it on Reptomin floating sticks, crickets and worm pieces. I kept it for about a month to make sure it was healthy and well adapted to a good habitat. Now it's living in a beautiful homemade patio habitat that my Gdaughter and her husband, Ben, built.
Hope I have your permission to jump into a posting now and then? I am amazed at all the RES lovers that have joined the forum. So glad that it's moderated. George :D :D

Well, enjoy your new-found freedom. Sorry to hear about the turts, though. (You know, you could have sent them to me instead of it potentially having been the other way around--just joking lol.) :D
