Yes, eight babies might be abit much, but we really enjoy them! Its like we got addicted or something. Anyway, lator on, our plans are to put a garden type pond in the back yard that will be plenty big enough for them all by the time they reach adulthood. Thanks for the welcome!

Yes, thats our plans, we are going to put a pond in the back yard and I have some good ideals on how were going to set it up, a fence around it is a must to keep them safe. But I am wandering about when it comes winter time what will will do. I'm not sure about their hibernateing or taking them inside. I still have a long time to figure this out, probally a year.

your pond will be really big! atleast 800 gallons so that they all get along and dont fight.

I hope that we are that lucky! We take the best care of them as we can and I hope that they all live to they die of old age, maybe even outlive me! But nature has her own plans, I hate the thought, but we may lose some. We first got into res when we went to Myrtle Beach on vacation. We bought 2 baby's and got home and read everything on the net, bought books and tried doing everything absolutely right, but sadly both died within a month. We got really down and out on the turtle scene but we ordered some more and we got really excited again! If we were to lose our only turts again, im afriad we would'nt want to get anymore. We have 8 now, and we are in it for ever I hope.

I bought 10 babies last September at a flea market, had a six month old and found another hatchling on the golf course making a total of 12.
I have an out door pond and ended up bringing them in for the winter months temporary and containing them in the biggest rubbermaid storage box I could find.
With thanks to this forum and a lot of valuable information, we got through those months, however I did lose a couple due to RI.
My mistake was putting them back out too early, an unexpected cold spell and a heater that wasn't enough to cover the size of my pond.

8 wow o.k. you got some time but lots to do, my suggestion would be to read oldturtles post then beg him for advice on hibernating etc. he has ponds and turts so he is already knowledgable there good luck and welcome.
