The rings of black/brown or whatever it looks like to you seem to be fading. I do not know what this means and I think it could be either super bad or nothing at all. Does anyone know what in the world is going on, and is it something I’m doing wrong?

That's normal for RES. They lose some of those patterns, especially on the plastron. Male RES can also become melanastic and will be darker/grayer overall.
