Hm, have you recently added water condtioner, does your turtle rub his eyes alot? Sometimes when i add too much water conditioner, my turtles eyes get irritated. It could also be a more serious problem. You could try Zoo med turtle eye drops, they cost a couple of bucks (around 4$) and you can find it at almost any pet store. Try that for a couple of days, and if doesnt work..off to the vet.

I use salt in my tank, and i dont have any problems with it. But i guess not all turtles react the same way. The salt is probably the cause.

Just curious, why did your brother put salt in the tank?

Yeah, thats what i think too..if thats the case, your turtle should be fine. Just change the water and watch him closely.

Did he add more than what was recommended on the package? What kind of salt was it (brand) and how much water is in there?

Swollen eyes are probably the most common symptoms RES might get... there can easily be something else behind it.

You said you got a new UVB bulb, what kind is it? I got a reptisun 10.0 compact and i don't know if it was too close or what but my turtle's eyes got really swollen and i freaked! I got a different bulb and it went away in a few days. I guess it was kinda like a sunburn for his eyelids, i felt horrible about it.

How far away is it from the basking area?

The Reptisun shouldnt be any close than 12 inches from the basking area.

Yeah i learned that the hard way. Move it farther away, it should start to look better in a few days.
