nails

I measured peanut's "famous" nails today and his longest ones were exactly 2.5 cm long im worried about them growing even longer and he will eventually break them from climbing the basking area. Is there anyway to shorten his nails without having then bleed?

At some point the growth seems to stop. If the nails are healthy and he doesn't have to fight/claw his way on to the basking area, he won't break them. My RES is a big boy and he hauls himself on the basking area using both his front and back nails without any problems.
