Common Issue?

I've had Mini-Fred for about two and half weeks now. He seems to be doing fine, eating, swimming, swimming against the current XD But he doesn't seem to want to bask as much as Fred used to.
He's basked a few times, but he doesn't seem to enjoy basking on the platform. But I have noticed he will be in the water "basking" that way.
Will it take him a while to understand? Or is it something else?
He's still 2 1/2 inches long and he seems like he's going to start shedding soon since the ends of his scutes look metalic XD
Help is appreciated ^_^

He may be basking when you're not around. Turtles are usually very shy about basking, especially babies. As long as the basking platform is easy for him to get on it should be fine.

Yes, his basking platform is very easy to get to. But I guess you might be right about the shyness. I always here a plop when I enter my room XD

Ya, Tito used to do that do
When i would leave he used to pull out some courage from his shell and come out of the water to bask
What you should do is
When you come home slowly peak on him
Dont be hessitant to come in your room
Cuz when you do hell slide off into the water
And when he sees your no harm
Hell slowly begin to let his guard down
After a while hell get used to your presence when basking
