How do you figure their age out? I know you have to count the scute rings but how do i do that also? Also how do i measure the shell of my turtle?

I appreciate every answer you guys post on here. Thanks!

The scute ring thing is a myth, especially for captive turtles. You can't be sure of the exact age unless you knew when your turtle hatched.

You measure the straight carapace length (SCL). Measure the scute behing your turtle's neck (nuchal scute) down the spine to the ends of the scutes above the tail and don't include the curve of the shell.

You can usually do a rough estimate...it depends on the care of your turtles before you got them.

Straight carapace length (SCL), is how you (IHY) measure your turtle's (MYT)
length. Don't measure by (DMB) the curve of (TCO) the shell.

Sorry, I just (SIJ) wanted to show (WTS) you what a (YWA) world of giving (WOG) everything a three (EAT) letter abbreviation would (LAW) be like.

That, along with the "when a turtle bites you, it wont let go until it hears thunder" is a bunch of bologna!

You realy cant tell how old a turtle is unless you know the exact hatch date. Rough estimates are sometimes not good enough either, you see..turtles sometimes grow at very different rates, some faster, some slower. So saying a 6 inch turtle is probably 4 years old is false, because it may very well be 9 years old for all you know.
