Last week I moved from home back to school and I brought my turtle with me. At the same time I upgraded him from a ten to a twenty gallon tank.
Since we've got here, all he does is sit under the dock. I've seen him come out once in a while, but he's not as active as he was at home - not swimming or anything. I should also mention that there are only about 5 gallons of water in my twenty gallon tank. I know it's supposed to be deeper but I'm afraid he's going to drown! I'm going to try to find some plants for the side of the tank. I think I'll wait until he gets settled until I make the water deeper.
Also, I haven't caught him basking since we've been here (last Friday - it's now Sunday). Should I be worried about this? Problems like shell rot and things like that? The basking temp is hot, around 95.
He's eating regularly and everything.

The temps may be too hot. Try lowering it to around 90-92. Also, you have an aquatic turtle. They only reason he'll drown is if he gets stuck under something. So, by all means, fill up the tank.

What is your water temp?

the water temp. is around 80 degrees.

oh and i should mention that before the move he basked every day very regularly so I don't think the temperature is too hot for him

Well, fill up the tank, and let him settle in for a bit. These are new surroundings for him too.

Yes lower the basking temp.
New turtles are scared to bask when your around, so if you leave the house he is probably basking, if all the requiremnts are met.
