Hole in turtle shell?

hey i saw a turtle on the road the other day and i picked it up and i saw it had a hole right on the edge of it's shell like someone drilled a hole in it and i was just wondering if it hurts the turtle because it looked so cruel!

Yes, it does hurt, the shell is very sensitive. It was probably drilled by someone. Believe it or not, people used to drill a hole in the edge of the shell, tie it up, and keep it as there "pet." They would feed it all kinds of crap, get bored of it, and let it go. Sick right? My granddad used to do it(35 to 40 years ago). I felt like punching him in the face when he told me this. :x :evil: :x :evil: :x :evil:

If its at the edge, it could have been an injury from an attack.

I think he/she is talking about a perfect hole, one that looks like it was drilled by a drill bit. Am I right turtlelover2? Or was it more rough?
