Lately, Faijai, my turtle stopped eating. We changed pellets awhile ago, and im not exactly sure is that the reason. We tried dipping the pellets into tuna water. He bit it , then he spit it back out. I put some shrimp in there, and he doesnt seem to be much interested as he used to be. I fed him some tuna and he seems to like it. Can turtles actully be picky eaters?

About 3 weeks ago, we had a black sponge basking area. We noticed they began biting the sponge. So we quickly took out the sponge. We saw some black sponge in its poop. I still see some sometimes. And also, we had some calcium tablets, it was suppose to disolve in the water. We noticed the turtles biting it , too. Later we found some white stuff in its poop.
Today after i fed Faijai some tuna which he ate, he pooped green poop. Im not sure if thats normal or not, but our pellets are yellow and red and the tuna is a peachy colour. Shrimp is orange-ish. The poop was not solid/stiff. It was kinda stringy-ish.
Before, the poop was brown and was awfully long. Now it seems to be smaller, way smaller.

What may be the problem?
We had him for about a year now. We got them last year november. He's around 3 inches long. Please help suggest something. Thanks

What are you feeding him for veggies?

None. We used to feed them abit of lettuce, but then we saw they didnt have much interest so we didnt feed them that much. We dont feed them much lettuce at all anymore. None at all.

Not that this helps at all with your question, but it's really important for the little guys to get used to eating veggies, it's an important part of their diet, especially as they get older. If you keep offering it to them they'll warm up to it eventually.

I don't know about turtles but ducks will have green poop if they have an infection of some sort. It might be best to call a vet and ask if green poop is normal or not and go from there.

What's his water temperature?

When he swims does his rear end float higher than his front end?

Has he ever been tested for internal parasites? A vet can check a fecal sample pretty easily. It shouldn't be expensive.

I agree that you should take your turtle to see a vet. Some turtles are picky eaters but what you're describing sounds like a loss of appetite and some diarrhea, which is usually a symptom of something.

I will try to feed them some lettuce perhaps. Do they eat carrots?

His water temp. it 81'F and i heard the best temp for them is 78'F right? So i turned down the heater now that i noticed.

No, his rear end does not float up.

He and my other turtles were never brought to a vet before ever since they came home from the pet store.

Do you think he may be constipated?
Im abit afraid that he might have eaten the sponge.
With the symptoms that i have is there like anything i can do for him? It would be the best if i could fix this at home instead of brining it to the vet.

Tell the vet about the sponge. It's possible that he's gotten stopped up by a piece of sponge. If the vet thinks that's what's going on, he/she may want to administer a laxative.
