I'm getting a free tank (roughly 60gal, wide) from my vet, complete with stand, lamps, etc and I have no idea what I want to put in it. My first thought was a baby turtle (painted, map, dbt) but now I'm not sure if I really want to get into more aquatics.

Over the years I've considered the following;

leopard gecko
bearded dragon
various snakes
tarantula
pac man frog

I'm open to just about anything, but care should be relatively easy. Just looking for suggestions of what could live permanently in a tank that size.

I've heard things against putting a pacman frog in a tank that's too big. They thrive best in 10 gallon tanks and may not find food in a 60 gallon (unless of course, you plan on separating the tank to have several animals in it).
A leopard gecko would love a 60 gallon (and if you separate the tank, you could have 2 or 3 of them in there). I'm planning on getting a leopard gecko after Christmas break
And I don't know much about the other animals.
My vote is for a leopard gecko or a snake.

If I had to pick from your list i would go with the bearded dragon. Maybe a coloney of Fire bellied toads? But if I had a extra 60 gallon I would get a Loggerhead musk!!! They only grow to max of 6"!!! And they are sooo cute when there hatchlings!!

I'd go for the leopard gecko, they have the coolest little faces! Someday I will have one...

I'm not really into frogs, except for pacmans. I'm liking the loggerhead tho..very cute

If I were to ever get another tank, I would put some sort of lizard in there. Probably a gecko. I never understood why people like having snakes as a pet. They are the most boring creatures I've ever seen.

Billy, have you ever seen one feed? It is amazing!! And you can let them hang out on your shoulders!! I want a snake, but my mom has threatened to throw me (and my snake) out of the house if I get one.

My friend has one, and I've never seen it move. At all. I've never seen him feeding, either, but he eats mice that are already dead, so it's probably not as fascinating as live feeding.
