I just bought a new heater for my turtles. i have it laying down at the bottom of the tank so that the whole watter can be heated. however, i am concerned if one of the little fellas will try to eat the cable... is that anything to worry about? anyone else have this issue?

I think there have been one or two turts that are really bitey... but I don't it recall being a problem.

Are yours like that?

Ferd – Most heaters for an aquarium are designed to the placed horizontally with the wire coming out the top. If you have a proper filter/pump the water should circulate and stay at a constant temperature. Turtles will eat or try to eat almost anything. If they work at it they could eat off the insulation on the wire. ZAPO!!

I've heard of some folks using a narrow piece of pvc to protect the cord, but for the most part it's not necessary.

One of my turtles, Leo, tends to bite at everything, but she's never gone after cords.
The small diameter PVC is a good way to be safe if you're worried though.

My turtle is the bitey type. I do like mikee said and keep the heaters at an angle so the cord comes out the top and isn't under water.
