ok, the turtle was in its tank and then all this greenish brown oily stuff was ata the surface of the water. there was also nasty diarhea alover the basking platform.
note, we bought this 5pack of romaine lettuce from costco for salad, but we cant eat it all before it spoils, so ive been giving the turtle a whole leaf from the romaine head every day, as well as pellets every other day.
i rinse the lettuce before feeding.

what could be the cause of this?

and my turtle basks from like 9am to 3pm straight. always out. most of the time there is no direct sunlight, but the rest of the time there is sunlight on the turtle. is 6 hours long or what?

tim-31 – Turtles are like humans in some regards. When we make a big change in our diet so does our poop. If he has been accustomed to pellets and you loaded him up with lettuce, he got diarrhea. I think if you get back to a diet of pellets he will be back on track. Now if your filter/pump is big enough and working correctly, this oily stuff will be taken care of. The sun issue is a non issue. The turtle will stay out as long as he feels like and as long as it takes to take care of business.

Is the tank in direct sunlight? Or do you have a pond?
