Hey everyone,

I noticed a few people on here that have built their own basking area for the turtles on top of the tank, as to having just your regular basking rock floating in the water in the tank or floating docks.

Why do it ? Im guessing for more room, and the turtle is in a dry area at all times when basking?

If there are any other reasons please let me know , as im trying to built a new somewhat custom tank for my little turtles!

More room for the turtle to bask, more swimming room since you can fill the tank to the top (depending on the design of the ATBA), can be made to look really cool. All are reasons.

I personally did it because Frankie needs all the swimming room she can. Also, she'd surely sink any comercial dock out there :P

I agree with Spot - There's some Really cool looking atba's out there!

Most are also easy to remove (just lift it off), can offer more privacy for basking but keep the swimming view open and keep potential water splashing away from the bulbs.

Are there docks that sell at the stores that go on top of the tank?, Ive only ever seen floating ones.

I don't think there are commercially available above tank basking areas, at least none that I've seen. Most people construct their own.
