i've recently purchased 2 RES and i've had them for about 2 months now. is it common for it to still be scared of me? Everytime they bask on land, when i walk into the room, it's like an olympic diving show. they just take off and swim like they're on redbull. is that normal?

VERY VERY COMMON! I have had my baby RES for about 6-7 month, and he started baskin infront of me a few weeks ago. each turtle has a different attitude. If they see you a lot, they'll bond quick, but you never know. they'll eventually realize you are the ALMIGHTY FOOD GIVER!!!! and every time they see you they'll rush to the side of the glass and beg. Just wait a while, they'll get used to you

That is normal. It takes time before they would trust you. And it also depends on their personality. 2 of my turtles will let me touch them while basking but the other one would still jump back to the water when I am near.

Mine do that a lot. Then they all starting swimming up against the glass trying to get my attention. It's pretty cute. Once in a while they will be so chill they will just stay basking and not even pay attention to me.

My Beaker is almost two years old and she will not bask with me in the room. Gomie, on the other hand, doesn't give a hoot if I'm there or not.
