I'm in the process of finding a new herp vet. In the last two cities I lived in I had one vets office that would take care of all my pets, mammal and reptile. I was referred to a local vet that has a Herp vet too. Their mammal prices and vets are really good, but just for a Herp visit it is $50. This doesn't include any xrays, shots, medicine, etc. At the last two Herp vets they rarely charged a general fee and when there was one it was like $35.

Does $50 sound high to anyone else?

Anyone in the Denver area have any referrals? Preferrably in the Westminster/Arvada area. I brought them to Alameda East before and liked them, but it is now about an hour away and I'd like to find something closer.

It's not high for a specialist office call. For my birds the office call is $40-$60. My herp vet charges less since I am in there all the time with my birds or the turtles. He usually charges me $20 for an office call. Finding specialist vets is hard. My vet was only 15 minutes away and then she moved her office and is now 40 minutes away.

If I lived in the greater Denver area, I'd be going to alameda east. When I lived out there I heard wonderful things about them.

The vets I have been to have charged around $50 for just the office visit for my turtles so I think you're in the right ballpark price-wise.

I would say that's reasonable for a good herp vet.

The last herp vet I went to charged $54 for the visit, with everything else extra.

ha-sog -- Fifty bucks for a good vet who knows what he is doing is a good price. Herp vets are highly specialized and demand and get that price. Hold on to your wallet when he does a culture, xray and or a shot. !!

Mine charges $73 for 5 minutes or 50 minutes... but he does a good job. Most other vets will offer cheaper follow up visits and checkups... some will also charge you an "office fee" during your initial visit.

mine charges 45 dollars but the last time i was there she only charged me 12 becasue it just to see if her condition had improved. the first visit was $83

I'll probably take them to Alameda East (they are on the Emergency Vets show on Animal Planet). I think they make so much money they don't worry about nickle and diming you. Most of what I have had to do so far at Herp vets is yearly check ups. For that I will drive the hour to go to Alameda East. Just for yearly check ups, Alameda East also does one fee for all three turtles plus the lizard, the last time I took them all in was November and for all 4 the total fee was ~$80. The new place I take my mammals to would charge $250 ($50 for each reptile). Oh well. Thanks for all your responses.
