i found a pretty cheap heat lamp (i dont have one yet but my turtle basks anyway.) but the problem is i have a aquarium lid. how could i use a clamp heating lamp with a aquarium lid in the way?

i read you could shine the heat source through the glass but i doubt that would work. if it does work it would probably blind the turtle if he looked at it though.

On my 29Gal tank, I just use one of those screen type lids and put the lamps on there. But I just got a 50Gal tank and the lights are in the way so I dont really know whereto clamp it at.

Is it a mesh lid? Whenever my tank was setup that way I just laid the lamp on top of it instead of clamping it on to anything. Either that or clamp it on to something other than the tank somehow. A nearby shelf or something.

Do you have a UVB source as well? UVB cannot penetrate glass very well. You might want to take the lid off all together. Look at some pictures of other peoples setups to get some ideas.

yea i have a UVB tube light on my aquarium lid which is why i dont want to remove it. there is no screening in the way of the UVB bulb. i have no idea what to do.

there is a small hole on top of my aquarium lid where i could put the clamp lamp inside the tank with the clamping part going through the hole so its not interfearing with the aquarium lid. i just dont know yet because i dont have the heat lamp yet.

Is it a normal sort of aquarium hood, where the back has the strip light and the from has a little panel that lifts up for feeding etc? If so, could you remove that portion (or just part of it) so you could clamp the lamp on and have it shine down onto the basking spot? It's a little tough to give much help without knowing exactly what you're working with.

yeah it's pretty much a regular aquarium hood. it does have a panel for feeding. the panel is removable but its probably too small to shine down to the basking platform. also, the basking platform is on the right side of the tank and the lid is in the middle. the tank is 15 gallon i think (or thats what the online aquarium calculator says. ill try to take a pic as soon as i get my camera working or as soon as i reinstall my computer so i can use a webcam again.
