In the summer we will be moving and Crush will be coming with us. It is a three hour drive. He will be traveling in his plastic carrier with shredded paper, a towel under him and hand warmers under that and all that will be in one of those styrofoam containers. He will be buckled in between the cat carriers and his thermometer will be on and checked.

We plan on taking down his tank the night before and packing it. How long can he be dry docked or should we set up him in the bathroom with water in the bathtub?

When we get to the apartment we plan on setting him up in the bathroom with water in the bathtub and his basking light with free roam of the bathroom. He will be there while we get all the stuff into the apartment, fish set up and his tank set up. It would probably be 2-6 hours. Is that too long? Or would just filling up his rubbermaid container that holds his stuff (40 gal) in the bathroom? Since this place is very pet friendly (they have a park for pets) we might take breaks to take him out in the sunlight, confined of course.

Any help is appreciated.

You can probably skip the news paper. Just a towel so he doesn't slide around is probably fine. Putting in a bath tub is fine just make sure the water isn't to warm or to cold.

I would just fill up the rubbermaid. There's nothing wrong with a bathtub if you knew it was very clean, but soap residue is a concern. So long as it's warm enough, he'll be fine in the rubbermaid with a few inches of water for a few hours.

Since it would be summer and I'm assuming warm, you might place him on a dampened towel in his moving box to give him a little moisture (will you really need hand warmers?). Keep the temp in the car comfortable, not cool with the AC on. Giving him a towel to burrow under would be good as well; if it's dark he'll probably sleep.

Six hours from water to water is fine. Keep in mind the temp. You don't want to have the temps swing from hot to cold. It is somewhat difficult to keep the temp constant when you are moving them. Good Luck!!

Well we were going to put a hand warmer in his box because the air conditioning would be on because of the cats. he will be in one of those containers that keeps hot food hot so shouldn't that keep his temp more constant?

He doesn't like to sleep unless he has his little cave to sleep in so I doubt he will do much sleeping but I can give it a try.
