i gave my res a piece of shredded carrot to day and he gobbles it up but it one piece. no chewing or nothing it was a big piece and hes small will he be ok

He should be fine, might urp it back up or get a little lethargic trying to digest it. In the future, give him smaller pieces!

Or put in a really big chunk, so they have to peck at it to get pieces off. I usually toss in a baby carrot whole for them to pick at, and it takes them a few days to eat it. The warm water softens it up little by little so eventually they can pick at it.

Doesn't veggies and fruits lose their nutrients if it is soaked in the water for too long?

Once in a while a turtle chokes when he/she tries to swallow something bigger than his throat. They get too excited. The benefit of feeding them small pieces or thin pieces of food is that this can't happen.

No only if you boil them.

the next time i cut them in tiny cubes carrots are ok for my res right. Eat ate them right up

Carrots are good as long as you don't give him carrots every day. They are relatively high in sugar, so once a week or so with carrots is enough. A good way to feed carrots is to peel off long thin strips with a potato peeler.

Thats what I do. I peel strips with my peeler and clip them to the tank along with his greens.
