if you read my other thread, you'll know i've took my baby res to the vet last week, and the vet said nothing was wrong with him, then today i caught my res breathing with his mouth open and i hear a popping sound too, DOES HE KNOW HOW TO BE A DAM VET?!?!? i want to take my res back there because that is the only place near my house, and all i need is a treatment for my res, no more for him to look at it

im taking my res to the vet in 2 days, do you think it'll be too late????

and when i get there can i tell him like how he doesnt know how to examine turtles.

I would find another vet and 2 days may be too late.

Is he a herp vet? A regular cat and dog vet probably wouldn't know the signs of RI.

he was a "reptile" vet thats what the receptionist told me, is there anything i can do? like file a complaint!??!

A complaint isn't going to make your turtle better. Vets are only human they do make mistakes. Same with doctors, doctors kill patients ona ddaily basis because of misdiagnosing. Just find another vet.

In the meantime, keep the water a bit warmer than usual (82F) and the basking temp up (90-91F)---I'm sure you know this, though. Good luck.

update - two days ago, i called the vet asking about my turtles condition, he claimed that my turtle was not sick when i took him there, but from what i read on this forum, R.I does not show signs until a while after, so i dont believe my turtle was actually suffocating a few days right after he was "fine" at the vet.

i asked the vet if i could just get the antibiotics and not pay for another checkup, he said yes and also i'd get a discount if i do need a checkup ( no thankyou )

so i went to the place again, paid 25$ for the antibiotics, it came with this measuring tube that was too big for me to get into the turtles mouth, so the people there was kind enough to get me some smaller tubes.

i guess all is good right now, i hope my turtle get better soon.

does anyone have experience in doing this? giving the turtle antibiotics? and when it will get well?

It is really hard giving oral meds. All I can say is, GOOD LUCK! Cause it never worked out for me lol.

haha..they gave me these really small tubes and i sucessfully fed my turtle the med the tubes are smaller than coffee straws

if anyone had any experience giving the turtle antibiotics, how long did it take for your turtle to recover?

oh my god, oral meds ar a pain!. especially when your turtle is non agressive like mine. we would sit there for half an hour just to get her to bite and you'd have to be fast becasue if you missed your chance youd have to wait another half an hour. you can try stroking the sides with your fore finger and thumb. sometimes that works but is akward to do that, securly hold a turtle and stick a syrynge in their mouth. she didn't exactly have RI but I got it when i got her a check up so the vet gave it to me " just in case" but i think that she was starting to show signs. she recovered pretty quick.

My turtle had ear abscess and the vet gave me oral antiboitics and a syringe without the needle. It got really easy when I found out you have to kind of aggrivate the turtle until he starts snapping at the syringe or straw or whatever. What I did was pushed the syringe up against his mouth not hard, but enough to push his head in his shell.. it worked though. it's sounds rough, but the results make it okay. When he attatches, slowly give meds. The turtle gets used to it and knows when it's coming. My turtle got better in about a week and a half. He is happier than ever! Hope i helped!

did the antibiotics you got from the vet last you a week and a half? cause what i got seem less..im worried that i dont have enough

just to get things clear, so your turtle was still doing the same thing he did when he was taking the antibiotics right? meaning he was still having the R.I signs until he got well right?
