Outside kiddy pools

do those need to be heated?
or can you just put your turtle
in the water without a heater??

If it's warm enough, (ie same temp as your tank) then you don't need a heater. But you also have to make sure it doesn't get too warm, because the water can heat up pretty quickly in the sun.
Also, keep in mind most people use kiddie pools as a "supervised" swimming time, because of filtration, escape-proofedness, predators, etc.

I set my kiddie pool up at least a day before I plan to take Toby in it. That way the water warms up and dechlorinates. I put him in it in the afternoons when the pool is half covered by shade so it doesn't get too hot.

I fill half with the hose water that is cool and the other half with warm water from the house so there is a happy medium.

so glad I searched for "kiddie pool"!
we got Gary and Ace a big hard plastic kiddie pool (Gary swims placidly, Ace scrambles up the side in repeated failed escape attempts) and I was wondering if leaving it out for a day to warm in the sun would be enough. It seems that it is. We'll use the water two days in a row and then dump it out.

You need to leave it sit for at least 24 hours before you put your turtles in it, so that the chlorine can evaporate from the water. Plus it gives the water time to warm up. I set mine up on Friday afternoons, then let Toby swim in it on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, then dump the water out Sunday night.
