Ok, this is random, but I want to start a sort of turtle-saving mission. So far I have had one (hopefully) success. I found an ad on Craigslist for a RES that had horrible pyramiding and a tiny tank. I NICELY e-mailed the seller and asked him to please tell whoever buys the turtle to visit this website to get proper care info. I told him a bit about what he was doing wrong (again, NICELY) and he e-mailed me back and thanked me for the info and promised he would pass it along to the new owner.

I know I may be wasting my time, but I would like to try to continue to do this. I have already found another listing today for a painted turtle (don't know which type of painted) and well, I'll let the listing do the talking:

"We brought home a baby Painter Turtle from the lakes of Wisconsin nearly 7 years ago which we would like to offer FREE to a good home. The turtle has been a wonderful pet. His habitat is a 2.5 feet by 1 foot open aquarium with a climbing boulder, perching ledge and gravel base with filtration rack underneath. He requires very little attention...feedings every other day consisting of turtle pellets and dried shrimp treats. We used to have a heat lamp on him about 10 hours a day (recommended but not required)."

So, after all the rambling... my question is... where do I find good care sheets for other types of turtles (such as this painted) to pass along in hopes that someone may take it seriously?

I just want to try to do some good for these poor turtles. I'd love to adopt them all if I could.

TurtleTimes.com has care sheets for almost every species of turtle, although they're a bit hard to find.
Also AustinsTurtlePage.com has some basic care for a large number of turts.

Just don't get discouraged or upset if you get some less than friendly responses. There are some people out there who think they know everything. Just ignore them, and move on to the next person

oh my are you serisous thats what it said? i agree with bull dog, dont get discouraged. if you even inform just one person thats one less turtle ( or turtles) that have to suffer. your doing a very noble cause and i wish you the best of luck in your mission

Thanks for the info everyone! And the encouragement I figure that if these people are giving up their turtles anyway, they might as well pass along some good info to the new owners (hopefully). I'll see how well it goes!
