can a turtle bask too much? when i came home from work for lunch cujo was up on the platform. when i came home after work i noticed he was in the same spot. when i went over to him his eyes were closed like he was sleeping but then he woke up and kind wiped over his eyes. is this normal?

hahah..what a chillin turtle you have. mine wont even let me see them bask yet. ive caught glimps of them basking but they just freak out and run into the water like they are posessed.

sorry...i dont have anything positive to add to your question.

I think that a healthy turtle will bask when s/he needs and wants to, and I wouldn't worry if the turtle is "overdoing it."

The wiping of the eyes on the basking area is most likely because the lids have dried out a little from being out of the water for awhile.

Hi.My 2 guys will do this from time to time- bask for a long time. The moment I will come near their tank they will dive into the water. They don't want to be seen basking!!! Why do turtles do this?? It's kinda funny!!

They do it out of fear. Most turtles are shy. Could you imagine sitting in your chair and seeing something like 50 times bigger than you strolling by? I think you'd be scared of it for a while.
