In August of last year, my friend and I went to a flea market and we both bought RES's. Mine is now 3-4 inches, but the turtle that they got is still really small. About the same size it was when we got it a year ago. Like 1 1/2 inches. Why is that? Also, they dont have a good set up for the turtle. The tank is too small, ect.

If you don't care for your turtle properly, you can stunt it's growth.

Also, if you haven't sexed the turtles yet, it's possible that they have a male and you have a female. But it is likely living conditions. Send your friend to the board here and we can try to help them out!

Yes it will out grow it, that's a myth. It just won't grow at the rate it's supposed to and it will die an early death due to inproper care.

Poor living conditions will result in minimal (or no) growth. The size of the enclosure won't affect growth if other conditions are met. An inadequate diet, temps that are too cool, and a lack of basking under proper lighting, however, will.
