This is the first time to try guppies for me so i want to know your opinions on them.
I just bought 25 Feeder guppies from Pet City. They are being quarantined right now, planning on adding 3 to the tank tonight.

Questions:

Which do you prefer, Guppies or Rosey reds?

Which of the two is faster?,

More Nutritious?

I haven't tried rosies yet because Curtis is still small. He LOVES the feeder guppies though. As a matter of fact, I have several generations of them swimming in his tank with him. He eats them at his leasure but enjoys mostly the tiny babies. When he gets a little bigger I'll try the rosies. Not sure though which of the two is more nutritious.

ive used both and dont really have a prefrence. i think the guppy would be faster but i just a guess

I prefer rosies. Only because I've never had any issues with their health.

I just stuck 3 in like 10 mins ago, n there all gone :O that was quick.

What size is your turtle?!

you might want to be careful with feeding live food and having both your turtles chasing after them

they will disregaurd each others presence and get to the food, and regardless of which turtle gets the fish first, the other turtle with try and eat the fish while its in the other turtles mouth. that is when a turtle dies or becomes injured

I got it, thanks for your concern, never had a problem before.
$crew isnt too interested in the guppies although he has eatin 2 n like an hour he doesnt chase them, and squirtle just gets em all.

PcB - my turtles are 4 inches and 3 1/2

They have a lot of natural instinct in them I guess!

i think its just luck of the draw sometimes!

i remember when my turtle was still a hatcling (SLC: 1 inch) i gave him his first goldfish feeder (I wasnt aware of their malnutrion then) and he actually caught one! it wasnt a guppy neither, pretty big. i was surprised, but yea.

I picked my beasts out wisely i was throwing pellets n the bucket they were in to see which ate better n stuff.

Is it ok to give feeder fish if the turtle has never had them? My turtle is five years old and I'm trying to vary her diet. I've thought about getting some feeder fish and putting them in her tank, but I wasn't sure how many at a time, etc. My turtle would eat the fish quickly, too as she has quite a hearty appetite.

I have feed both guppies and rosey reds. I think the rosies are much faster. The guppies were juviniles and were just bite sized for my 3 inch turtle. I think guppies are good for little turts, but in my opinion don't have enough meat on them to make them worth feeding to a big turtle.

Mitchell loved his rosies. So far he has only had them when I go away for a few days but I learned quickly to stuff him full of pellets right before I added the fish or they wouldn't last!
The first time he was a bit smaller than he is now and had a hard time with one of them, the largest one which he naturally caught first. I was tempted to take it away from him but he eventually swallowed it all. It was about the same size as his neck & head and he just swam around with it hanging halfway out of his mouth for awhile.
