trying to get out

my res is always trying to get out of his tank! Why do they do this is there a problem or is he just bored he is about five inches long and in a 46 gal tall tank with two rosie reds.

Are you sure you have a male?

Usually trying to escape is a sign of a gravid female.

If you're certain you've got a boy, then I'd recheck the tank to make sure he can't escape. Turtles are excellent climbers and you don't want to risk him falling out of the tank.

Is his/her front nails long? Tail Fat?

the front claws are not that long and the tail is fat at the base and short vito is about two and half y/o and 5inchs long

Well,my turtles sometime like swim really fast against the glass,and try to get out,and it can be funny!!But they don't do it all the time.They mostly just do it when they get scared.
