hi guys is 22" an ok distance from the basking spot for a 10uvb bulb. ive just built a new atba (pics later) and when the rounds for the lights are drilled the 10uvb will be 22" from the ground.

oh and i got a new turtle. my daughter called her "Liana". i wanted to call her turbo :(

id say a light of that intensity need to be quite a bit closer, id say 8-10 inches from the basking spot. UVB rays don't travel very far effectively.

I would not put the bulb any closer than 12 inches. Usually the manufacturer has pretty specific instructions on how far away to place the bulb to get maximum exposure without risking injury to the reptile.

8-10 does sound really close. just follow the manufacturers instructions like megcornell said

well i was told before on here that 10 uvb should only be used at around 12" if it is filtered through glass as it is a strong bulb. so i should have it furhter away.

a post by untsmurf in this thread explains it.

how ever my bulb is not filtered through glass so therefore 22" should be ok i think.
