Hey...I haven't posted in a long time, but I have a pretty important question.

My turtle has some white on his shell and it doesn't seem good. I got something from Petsmart called Sulfa Dip, but my question is how do I use it?
I always thought you rubbed it on with a Q-tip but this says make a quart of it by adding some with water and leaving the turtle in there for up to three hours, and that just doesn't seem right. Any advice is greatly appreciated

When my turtle had a white fungal infection on his shell I tried the Sulfa dip a couple of times and it didn't seem to help. There may be some out there whose turtles have been helped by the dip but I haven't seen anything on here to that effect.

You may be thinking of another medication that contains sulfa - silver sulfadiazine (aka SSD cream or Silvadene). This medication is highly effective (depending on the problem). It is available by prescription from a vet. It's a salve that you rub onto the affected area with your fingers or with a q tip.

It's not nearly as bad as the turtle in that picture but I cannot post one as of right now as my scanner isn't working. It's really just a white line on the top of the shell, may not even be anything, but I'd rather try something just in case.

I think that prescription was what I was thinking of, but since I already have the Sulfa Dip I'll try it and let you guys know if it helps at all.

When my hatchling was suffering from pneumonia and a vitamin A deficiency, I soaked him in warm water and Zoo Med Sulfa Dip once a day for about a week for two hours at a time. He was cured! I used the Zoo Med Eye Drops, too. I stand by the Zoo Med products. Regarding the white spot on the shell....maybe the Sulfa Dip won't cure it, but it certainly can't hurt it. Think of the Sulfa Dip as salt water that we gargle with when we have a sore throat. That's all it really is. It's good for your turtle...try it! Follow the instructions on the container and the dip will yield positive results.
