filter question - bio material

Hi guys I have some questions about filters. I have a 40 gal. long tank and I purchased a Aquaclear 150 and a 250 used fairly cheap. I am gonna put carbon and a sponge in the basket but am not familiar with boi material ( how much and what kind). Any help would be great, thanks.

B-mom -- I am not familiar with a Aquaclear but keep in mind about the turn over rate on your water flow. You should have at least five times the volume turn over in an hour. (GPH) If you have room for ceramic rings along with the sponge and carbon that woud be good. You want as much area for the bacteria to cling to as you can get. b.

As much bio media as the filter can hold will be good. Ceramic rings, stars, are good options for media. Just remember that these don't need to be replaced regularly like chemical media (carbon).
