is it ok to get a turtle online and if so are there any recomended sites online.
my reasoning for this is I went to the pet store today and I saw the turtles and there was a bunch. I just thought there might be diseases and they werent taken care of

I don't think online sellers are any better than petstores. Some are even worse. There have been a number of formal complaints filed against one site in particular (whose name is blocked on this forum). Plus, you've got to worry about shipping as well, which can be stressful on the turtle.

Have you checked local shelters? There's often lots of RES in reptile shelters. Or sometimes in local classified ads or craigslist.

If you're looking for a rarer turtle, try to find a breeder locally, where you can go look at his habitats.

You're right that turtles in the pet stores are often neglected. If you can't find a turtle anywhere else, try to find the pet store with the best setup. Look for a turtle who is active, clear eyes, good looking shell, etc.

I know many people are against buying from petstores, but I'm sure that's where a lot of the RES come from. I know where ever you get a turtle from, you'll be a good owner, since you've been doing your research. Good luck!

If you buy online, look for the small sellers they do a really good job of taking care of there turtles. Cause there not taking care of insane amount like a company.

Only problem is they sell out of everything very fast and wont sell again till next year

Ive read on alot of different forums he is a top notch guy to buy from but again hes sold out of everything almost and should expect to have some more turtles in next 2 months.

Some online dealers are reputable. It's good to get opinions of others who have had experience with them to see who is considered to be good.

I STILL NEED HELP ON MAKING A DECISION ON PETCO OR ANY OF THESE SITES. lllreptile.com www.reptiledepot.com etc. its hard becasue i dont know what im getting with a turtle seller and it seems sad to ship a little turtle in a box

Reptiledepot looks like a pretty good place to me. I have had no experience with them, but their youtube videos look good, and they have good prices (not too low, or too high)

You cant really order a turtle from petco online. If you go to the store, and it looks like they are being kept well, I would go with that option. They dont have to be shipped, which will save them greatly on stress.

ya aty my petco though i went and they didnt look to be kept well. alot looked like they had shell rot and there was like 10 in a cage and some werent moving in the back.

also i have hear it is easier to get salmonella from baby turtles. is this true
