I was hoping someone could tell me what this might be.

Pink algae?

I think some algae strains have been "turned pink" so they can see where they go. Like for habitat conservation.

What kind of pellets do you give them? I used to feed Ralph gammarus pellets, and they tinged his poop (and therefore filter) a reddish/orange colour.

Some bacteria colonies that occur around water are pink.

That's a fluval sponge.....You sure it's not the color of the sponge?

The color is basically uniform, so I'm guessing jozzep is correct in saying that is the original color.

The poop itself seems to be a normal colour.. and for the record,the sponges are always white lol

One thing it is for certain is gross. Bleh.

Maybe can you take it into a pet or pond store and see if they can analyze it? Or even just take them the pic?

That happens in my 20 gallon fish tank. I though it might be from the cherry shrimp (they were getting into the filter and breeding) I took them out and put them in a different tank, and it still happened. I think it's some kind of algae or bacteria but it hasn't affected my water chemistry and all my fish seem healthy...so I don't think it is dangerous.

For the record.....You're wrong.Mine are yellow orangish.

Let me re-phrase that.. the sponges that I've been buying for the last 5 years have always been white.

I think they start off white when they're brand new, then as they get used they get stained yellow/brown, no matter how much you clean them

jozzep, i've come across some that were like that in the box.. i'm guessing they've just been sitting on the shelf too long. Probably no harm, but I avoid them.

did you give your turtle pellet that colors red?? or fish that red colors? its could be the waste from turtle and stuck on that sponge and be a colonies bacteria. then there you go...

but its cool....
