Hi All,
please help!! I have attached a photo of my new turtle, can anyone tell me if its a female or a male?

Because of the short claws and short tail, I'd say it's probably a female. Could you take a picture of its front claws and post it?
Female RES are larger, but have shorter claws and tails. Also, their cloaca is closer to their body than a male's.

I would say female as well.

Since the uh, special place, is in the middle of the tail, it's hard for me to judge this one... Usually the cloaca is located very close to the shell if it's a female, and closer to the tip of the tail if male. Since the nails are short and the belly is flat, I'm going to guess female.

Males have longer nails than females, longer snouts, and a plastron (belly) that is curved inwards slightly. Males also do not grow larger than females typically, but genetics and housing can interfere with that, so a male can be larger than a female in some cases.

From those two photos, the turtle looks like a female.

Congratulations - it's a girl! A very pretty one too.

A nice female---you can tell fairly easily by the size of the tail and the relative position of the cloaca (near the shell).
