NEED HELP

so i adopted a turtle from a friend and it has some serius issues, i have another res that great health iv had that for a long time, but the res i adopted is about 3 years old and only 3.5 inches, hes very active but his shell is deformed, hes hasnt shed in over a year it seems like it just keep building on itself, his shell isnt pyramiding but it has a very weird rippling affect around it, its in a 50 gallon tank with all new lighting, anyone have any idea how i can fix this guy.

Dirty-D - It sounds like a calcium, basking, uvb, lighting or temp. issue. Put a few good photos on and lets take a look.

so i asked him what his setup was, he had him in a 40 gallon with a uv light and he just fed him plain food pellets, and he sed he had a good basking area but who knows. he didnt have a water heat source do u think that could be the issue?

He may have had a basking dock, without a heat source and without UVB. I've never seen a shell so ripply before, but it could very well be caused by a lack of proper lighting and a poor diet.
I don't even know if that will go away over time.

That is a type of pyramiding, and a severe one at that. Poor habitat conditions could also have contributed it, but the lack of a consistent and proper diet is likely the main cause. I wouldn't expect that shell to really improve, perhaps smoothen out a bit.

so i have his tank set up the best i can get it, now for diet i understand the regular diet but is there anything i should feed him more then usual? i dont think its a calcium problem becouse his shell is very hard i think it might be a growth problem, what ya think any sugestions

D-dan - The condition of your turtle is a new one on me. My guess is husbandry that he has been getting. My guess is long periods of not eating and then over feeding. The only help would be for you to strictly stick the the rules of the road with the care.
